Hey

I am new to the whole overclocking buisness and i used some of the guides on the forum for help. I seem to have some problems and questions though. So please bear with me if i dont get certain terms or i dont understand what you mean by your first post :)

I recently got a Q6600 and a new fan. I was planning to overclock it but for some reason it won't go past 2,7ghz. If i go past that the screen just goes black everything seems to be running though. I honestly think it might be the powersupply that cant handle anymore. Which wouldent suprise me. I overclock the CPU unlinked to the RAM since i think the Kingston ram i have wont do for overclocking.

Hardware (I guess its a little to much info :)) http://files.filefront.com/System+hardwarehtm/;8813136;/fileinfo.html

I also have anothe question regarding my RAM sticks:

Currently i have 2 x 1gb matching sticks > http://www.digitalimpuls.no/aspx/prdinfo.aspx?plid=26008

The other are 2 x 512mb (matching) PC6400 Kingston Value ram. Sadly more then that i dont know. I could always check it out if it matters. Thing is the Kingstons are suposed to run at 1.8V as far as i am aware of while the GEIL run best at 2.1V. Is the Kingson ram holding my GEIL ram back, and would my preformance improve if i actualy removed the Kingston ram and set it to 2.1V?

Hi and welcome :)

If the memory's unlinked then in theory it shouldn't be holding you back.

But definitely remove the Kingston and try with just the Geil incase they are conflicting.

As for the PSU, I'm not familiar with it. Its two 12v rails are 16A and 18A, but I'm not sure I'd chance an overclocked Q6600 and an 8800GTX on it.

Thanks for the reply i was starting to wonder if i would get any :D

I guess i wont be trying to overclock it any further then since you agree that the powersupply wont handle it.

Sorry it seems that i wasent clear on my first post regarding the ram. What i ment was if the kingston which has to run at 1.8V is holding back the GEIL ram that runs best at 2.1V. (or were you not talking about the CPU and RAM when you said they were unlinked?)So by removing the Kingston and setting 2.1V would that giver better preformance, and would upping the voltage affect my powersupply a lot. (Which already seems to be at its limit)

I know it makes no sense that 2gb ram at 2.1V would preform better then 3gb ram on 1.8V but i just had to ask :)

IF i was upgrading my powersupply (which money does not allow at the moment) which one would you recommend?
