Q6600 Motherboard

what cpu

What CPU you planning to fit ? What are you upgrading from? Will you also be re-using the RAM?

I am asking as my wife's PC is a northwood socket 478 2.8HT and I want to begin upgrading her to a C2D setup as she is complaining about her PC being too slow.

She has an ATI 9600XT AGP card in there, and 1GB 400MHz RAM. No overclocking.

My thinking is a E2140/2160 with the duo board, then as and when we can afford to, replace the Memory/GFx card, and eventually the motherboard for a dedicated board.

Right now I have 100 quid to spend and this board + E2140 seems to just fit the bill 100%

Sounds like maybe a windows reinstall might save you some mulah tbh. If shes just browser/emailer then its an almost pointles upgrade.

Photo editing

She does a lot of photo editing in photoshop. The biggest delay is when she is done editing and wants to print. It takes anything up tp 10 minutes to process the file for printing on her A3 Canon i9950 printer. Task monitor and other programs show that her CPU jumps to 100% and stays there.

I'm hoping to speed that up for her.

She has 2GB of RAM (400Mhz) so that shouldn't be a bottleneck, I'm thinking it must be the CPU.
