Please remember guys I'm on a budget.

Any help greatly appreciated

Got my Q6600 running at 3.2Ghz stable and im using a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme with a Scythe S-Flex 1600RPM fan..

Running at 46-48oC Idle and 60 loaded

depends on the chip really and if its the new GO version or not.

3ghz-3.2ghz with decent cooler

Go version I would guess would be about 3.2ghz +

as he said

i have had my q6600 at 3.4 but needs a good cooler to do it

To be honest I dont think your going to beat a water cooling setup..

Think its the right way to go with all of these hot cpus coming out

Depends on what you want. If you are happy with the temps/noise then air should be fine up to 3.2Ghz. And lets face it nearly everything will run like the wind on a quad at those speeds. :)

I agree water cooling is much better at keeping the temps down and the noise down but for some the extra expense and hassle and time of water cooling can be prohibitive.

For example me, I have most of the bits except a cpu block for watercooling my quad, but to fit it to my mATX setup would require substantial investment in time and effort. For me if I can keep it cool enough to be stable on air then I'm happy. :D
