Hiya,

Got my Q6600 running at 3.33Ghz with a new HD5850 graphics card.

Im wondering, as a gaming rig, is there any worthwhile upgrade that I can make on the CPU or is it time to move to a new platform?

Cheers.

Lal.

You could probably overclock it a bit more... what cooling? With anything new you're really not going to see any sort of useful performance increase.

Hi ,

I agree with Superewza really ,

For gaming use your not really going to get a " huge " boost in that department changing platforms for the cash it would cost you to change over.
You already have a super card ,which is a very important point and you a decent cpu too.

I would also try maybe for 3.5-3.6ghz if you can. Any push here will give you a decent gaming rigto be honest.

Best of luck.

You know - I cant remember what cpu cooler I have in my PC! I remember that it was a significant improvement from my Zalman 9500 - its HUGE (and quiet) and I really dont want to open it right now.

Im running at 8x415 at the moment - and Im getting peak temps of 62deg on the cores with Prime95 - and thats on a coolish day with 1.39v - I have had the cpu at 3.43v but any more I have to really start cranking up the volts (and the temps). I may try overclocking with a lower FSB (x9 multi) and see where I go.

Cheers.

I think he means 1.43v , that would blow the system in a matter of minuets.
You should be able to achieve decent enough clocks at 1.4v on that board. You the higher multi to push up the clocks.

Sorry - I meant 3.43Ghz with 1.39v.

I can run it safely at this volts @3.4Ghz (8x425) - is it worth me increasing the multi with a lower FSB? Running Prime now and getting 62degs - Im not sure its worth going higher and getting potentially much higher temps?
