Hi there,

Quick question which CPU would you recommend for a gaming PC?

Thanks in advance.

Your choices should be between q6600 and e8400 surely?

If its mostly for gaming, then just go with the e8400, especially with your mobo.

Edit: Does your mobo actually support the new 45nm chips? Not sure.... but they are not good for OCing quads...

Well as its pre-built you're now limited to choices. Out of those I think for gaming without over clocking then e6850, but if over clocking then it doesn;t really make too much difference, the q6600 could see 3.2ghz on stock cooler, with something better maybe as high as 3.8ghz. Personally build it yourself for him and keep the leftover change ;)

Quad if you want ultimate perfomance and bragging rights. Dual if you want great performance and cheaper running costs. I went from an E6550 @3.3 to a Q6600 @3.3, and now an E8400 @3.9. I can honestly say.....

I noticed no "real" difference between them apart from in benchmarks.

If he did want to go dual core check his mobo because most of the 965 chipsets just need a bios update, I think the 680 nvidias are starting to do the same and support the wolfdales.
