Q6600 OR E8400(WOLFDALE)

If you don't do a lot of heavy multitasking or video encoding then the E8400 is a better choice. But IMO the Quad is a better all rounder when overclocked.
 
I've not really used the quad properly (got a new design machine with Q6600 this week), but i didn't notice much of a difference with the E8500 @ 4.1Ghz over the E2200 @ 3.3 Ghz i run now.

For future games and multitasking go quad.
 
I moved from a Q6600 @ 3GHz to a E8400 @ 3.6GHz, and I'm finding general OS snappiness improved (if I'm not fooling myself)...otherwise unnoticeable. I don't clock hard, so if you can get a Q6600 up around 3.6GHz you're laughing...
