I've just overclocked my Q6600 G0 to 3.4ghz. In cpu-z the processor speed is shown as 3.4ghz but in open hardware monitor only cores 1 and 2 display the overclocked speed while 3 and 4 are shown to be running at stock speeds. Has anyone else encountered this before? Is it a bug or are 2 of the cores not taking the overclock?

My motherboard is an Asus P5KR. Speedstep and C1E are turned off.

Cheers.

@Barno

I would be interested to know your BIOS settings, as I have a similar Mobo / CPU setup and am thinking of overclocking. Did have a try ages ago, but gave up due to lack of time.

TIA.

Well cpu-z says that all cores are functioning and that the speed is 3.4, as does windows 7. Although neither of those tools break the speed down into individual cores.

Good show old bean...

What multiplier / clock speed have you set, and what RAM type and settings are you using?

Would be greatly appreciated :)

I was running at 3.2GHz, 8*400MHz, but was unsure of how high I could push the vcore, and every so often the overclock would fail and reset on boot. I hear the mobo I have may be affected by vdroop? Also tried 9*333MHz ~3GHz seemed more stable.

BTW, my chip is SLACR G0 stepping with VID 1.325.
