Q6600 Overclock Settings Check

Hey there. Okay, found the manual, which makes it easier for me to see what you are looking at in the bios.

Try this...

CPU Clock Ratio - 8x
CPU Host Frequency - 400 (if available)
PCI Express Frequency - 100

Memory Frequency - 800

DDR2 - +0.2 (up to 0.4 as needed)
PCI-E - leave
FSB - +0.1
(G)MCH - +0.1
CPU - 1.4

With any luck that will get you up and running at 3.2. With the memory and FSB running nicely in sync.

Just keep an eye on the temps. You don't want the CPU temp going over 70c if you can help it.

You might be able to reduce one or more of these voltages just a little, which will help temps, but give this a go as a starting base and see how it goes.

Thanks diggsy, I will give those a go.

As far as I can see the main difference over my current setting is to drop the clock ratio, increase the frequency and increase the CPU voltage?

Diggsy!

Your the man!

Running that OC, at idle it's about the same on stress it's currently at 1 or 2 degrees over what it was at 3GHz.

Prime 95 has been running for over an hour and it's passed all the tests so far. I will run a more long term test, but that's pretty good if you ask me.

Thank you very much!

Hmm, it's like it's hitting it's stride, the temps have actually gone down a degree or two.

I can hear the RPM on the cpu cooler bobbing around a bit, I think it seems to have found a sweet spot it want's to stay at.

Currently reading:

60 - CPU

1 - 56
2 - 56
3 - 55
4 - 55

Those temps are pretty much what the 3GHz was.

Also, is it possible that this IS more efficient?

I mean I just switched 95 off and the temps just plumited, I mean they lost 20 degrees in like a second. The fan RPM dropped off just as quick. Now running at:

40

39
40
39
38

Thats pretty normal. As soon as the load comes off these CPUs, the temps plummet.

Good to hear its working well up to now anyway.

Oh and your load temps dropping a degree or 2 when running something like Prime over a long period is also quite normal.

Diggsy,

I see, the CPU fan seem to take longer to spin down when they ran at 3GHz.

Thanks very much for your help, I am going to run 95 overnight and see how it goes.

Ok I ran 95 overnight. I have previously run it for 2 hours no issues, so I thought it safe to leave overnight.

So I set it off at just after 2000 and by 21:57 my PC had rebooted (I didn't notice until the morning).

Seconds before the reboot (although I was sure I had switched off the automatic reboot on BSOD) Windows Defender decided Real Temps that was running had changed and it had stopped it. This is the only thing before the crash and no red crosses before or after it (beyond the normal DHCP I occasionally get).

So do you think this is connected to the OC or just Real Temps?

I will be running 95 again tongiht regardless, just wondered what you thought?

It could just need another small increase on the MCH, or even vcore. Normally Prime errors are caused by lack of voltage somewhere, causing instability.

There were no Prime 95 errors. It just crashed, I think it was RealTemps.

Turn off defender and do the same test

Yeah good idea, I had planned on running it without realtemps (using hardware monitor or everest) but if that fails I will disable Defender.

Id say, just disable defender (mine is off all the time) and run prime95, cpuz and coretemp. Hardware monitor (IP monitor or something i think its called, diggsy recommended it to me and its free) if you want.

Dont need to have anything else running really. But i have Nod32, daemon tools, a defrag program and my xonar drivers

With defender off and not running RealTemps (ran hardware monitor instead) it ran through the night with no errors.

I think that's working.

This morning the temps were a little higher than they were over a 2 hours run, the overall temp was between 62-65 and the individual cores were around the 61 mark.

Do you know of any programs like prime 95 to test graphics cards?
