Am thinking of overclocking my Q6600 but I only have the stock fan. How much could I safely overclock it? Or do I need a CPU fan before even thinking of doing it?

1000w and no watercooling?

shame on you :p

i suggest starting out for a 3GHz overclock on stock volts - even the newer [lesser] q6600s should be easily doable

set your multiplier to 9 and the fsb to 333

gives you 3000mhz

or 3GHz

then check your temps

i would upgrade to a good quad aircooler if you want to push for more

then you can look at upping voltages and going higher - realistically - unles you get a miraculous low VID chip then you should be only looking at 3GHz on stock cooling

a TRUE is on this week only and it looks very swish! - worth the investment imo
you will need a 120 fan to go with it as well

I currently run my Q6600 at 3.2GHz without a cooling fan, just a Xigmatek S1283 heatsink; since I'm between water cooling :(

I have never overclocked before, however I am thinking about an upgrade. Is it as easy as this? Change the multiplier to 9 and fsb to 333? Do you need to change any more settings? I have a Zalman 9500AT boxed and waiting, is this a good cooler for 3Ghz?

Thanks,

Johnny.
