hey, just figured out what my username from when i registerd ages ago, so i can post again! woo. anyways...
ive had my Q6600 for ages now and the best i can seem to get out of it is 3.4GHz. is it possible to get anymore? ive tryed more voltage but it seems to make no difference, i just cant seem to get anything out of it. im at 1.298v according to CPU-Z(1.35v in the bios) and basically im wondering if anyone has any tips for getting more out of this processor as ive seen them clocked at 3.6 fairly often and even 3.8 (not so often)
anyway, let me know what you think! thanks

Tips

Post pics of your motherboard BIOS settings - CPU/Memory Timings/Multi's etc and I'm sure someone will help.

How are your temps? - if high you could reapply thermal paste / invest in watercooling (£80 big water looks good for ease of use) or if you are brave lap the processor (youtube is good to see how thi is done - not sure I'm brave enough)

I notice your memory timings are quiet tight - have you tried - 6 6 6 16 @ 800mhz - if that works you
can always tweak the memory back one step at a time

Remember you have gained a full 1ghz from stock so you may be at your CPU's limit (in your situation I would be happy especially at 1.298)- do you really want to shorten its lifespan for 200mhz or so.

Is your BIOS uptodate and is your PSU up to the job ?

Have you tried any online guides

Thx

Think I might just leave my Q6600 at 3.1GHz as I didn't have to mod anything other than the memory divider to get that. A nice free upgrade!

Save your current profile

Turn LoadLine calibration on.. Set you vcore to 1.45, your FSB to 400 and Multiplier to 9, set the FSB to Northbridge Strap to 333mhz (or 400 if the board has it, but this might not be as stable as 333mhz at higher FSB) check the RAM is running at 800 mhz.. lossen its timmings down to 5-5-5-15 for now, set the northbridge voltage to 1.45, set the PCI-E frequency to 101

boot into windows, load up prime 95 and turn on error checking, load up coretemp and run prime keep an eye on the temps (probably your limiting factor here with that cooler) need to stay under 75c.. if it fails then add a bit more vcore.. if it goes for 15 mins then back into the bios and lower the vcore by 1 notch repeat until it fails in the first 15 mins and then back to bios up 1 notch and try and prime for 4hours + if it fails then 1 notch more and try again for 4 hours+

Edit: thought you wanted 3.4, changed for 3.6

3.6

hey
i just upgraded to a water cooling system, bumped the fsb up to 451 on an 8x multi and set the volts to 1.45 (which is about 1.4v and even less under load) and its perfectly stable!! pc been runnin for 48 hours now. that included 14 hours on prime95 and 20 hours of folding on 4 cores, and gameing. so id say stable =]
should i try for any faster?
any tips on doin that?
all my voltages are still set to auto apart from vcore and ram.

Thanks

Hi TMax

Did you go for a custom watercooling build or a kit..I've been thinking about going with water soon so would be interested in what you went for + what temps you are getting.

Cheers
