Help please. I heard such good things about these chips being good clockers but so far to no avail. I have managed just now to get it to boot into windows however after running intel burn test on standard it stopped after 4 runs, max temp on any core was 66 degrees acording to realtemp. Is that bad? Volts at the moment are set to auto in the bios and im running a 400 x 8 multi. Any help

not another Q6600 thread. search for q6600 overclock and your pc will self destruct!

We need one big thread for Q6600 overclocking, voltage increases, what bios options to change and what cooling people use.

Do NOT leave your voltages at auto. You need to read up and manually set them, otherwise there is a high likelihood that they will be running way above what is needed.

Cheers guest. Thanks for your help

welcomes. Sorry but I have written in so many q6600 thread now. anyway, put your Vcore to 1.50 and re-test. Mine is at 1.6250 but vdroop drops it to 1.48 when its at full load.

Use Coretemp and prime to find out what your load temperature is.

I'll make a thread, Diggsy, post and ill edit it which whatever is needed...

Any suggestions there Diggsy please. I see you have one of these chips at 3.6. Whats your cpu volts? Currently if im reading cpuz right it says mine are at 1.34v which seems very high for an idle cpu cos the most stressfull thing im doing at the moment is writing this post

Cheers guest. Im in a bad mood pal, sorry. Well I just found a simple mistake i was making clocking my ram far to high. Ive knocked it back to its rated speed in the bios and ive passed IBT at 3.2 with volts on auto but temps were high at 67 degrees. Im gonna have to see if I can get it to run at 1.3v to make it cooler or I might try and re seat the H50. What do you think?

Hey Diggsy,

I honestly don't think there is a problem using [Auto] voltages for the early stages of an overclock, especially if the motherboard is running the latest BIOS . . . once someone has progressed into the deeper levels of their overclock then I agree a logical path would be to start to tinker with reducing volts if possible . . .

In short, people who start off overclocking are making life a lot more complicated for themselves by not using [Auto] voltages . . .I've tested this myself extensively the past three years and have always got good results . . . The [Auto] function is underrated I find and this over-volting issue is * greatly* exaggerated :D

Newbie overclockers are uptight enough as it is ("are my idle temps too high" . . . "Will I fry this?" etc) I think if anything we should be giving them "soothing & calm" advice! ;)

I think a meat & potatoes Q6600 overclock wouldn't need anything on manual apart from

  • vCore
  • FSB
  • Dram Frequency
and perhaps
  • CPU Multi
  • Memory Voltage

Yeah, I agree to a point Big Wayne, but some boards (Asus P5Q series for one) overvolt to silly high levels when left on auto.

But yes, to get a small overclock (3ghz or so on a Q6600) then auto should be okay.
