hey, just wanting to know if im frying my stuff.

i overclocked my CPU to 2.8Gig (nothing compared to what you guys do i know :P ) and useing core temp im now idling at between 38-34 degrees (depends on the core) and underload looking at 45-48.

is this okay? and if not what do you reccomend i do?

ive got an Arctic cooling Freezer 7. (heard people mention about using new thermal compound, would i need to take the motherboard out the case to do this?)

my 4850 GFX card runs very very hot, could this be raising the temps at all?

Temps are fine, depending on how you are loading it to test. Generally Prime95 Small FFT's will heat things up the most.

You don't really need to worry until your load temps are going into the 70's with Prime, and even then I would still say they are fine as there is no other application that will cause your CPU to heat up as much.

im using core temp 0.99.4

slight variance in the temps of the cores is what worried me, perhaps the CPU cooler isnt fitted properly?

tried wacking up the cooler from "silent" to "performance" and zero change in temps

Those temps are fine, the variance in core temps will be because the CPU IHS is not completely flat therefore your AC7 will not sit perfectly. The average difference in core temps for a Q6600 is prob 4-5C, anymore and I would re-seat the AC7.

my Q6600 with AC 7 freezer pro runs at 23degrees@3ghz, 1.325V inside my antec 900 with all fans on medium on idle

what thermal paste are u using on the cooler, AS5 or ?

mine go around 70C on full load, which is perfectly acceptable. Id say 80C is when you should call it a day.

i used prime 95 to test, got to about 58-60 underload, though looking at the temps you guys are saying, im a lot happier now :D

prime 95 all 4 cores
erm all the fans were on atleast medium and my room temp was about 15oC
antec 900 case with extra side fan AS5 thermal paste aint got a clue mate was using everest for temps:D

ah ha just used core tmep and i think the abit temp sensor which everest uses is still a bit broken

but heres what its really running

Those temps look a lot more realistic. I'm running 3.0Ghz myself, and I get around 50-52 under load.

Those temps are fine you should be able to get it to 3.0 on stock volts most of the q6600's do this that i know of , try it unless you have to put the voltage up you temps shold stay about the same , my old q6600 idle sat about 34 underload sat about 60. also i use mx2 thermal paste i find this keeps my temps about 2-5 degress cooler than arctic silver 5 used to and its non-conductive
My q6600 atm is on 3.8 with 1.5v and temps sit about 28 idle and 50 load
