Will this setup be good for overclocking the Q6600?

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

Abit IP35 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PQ PC2-8000C5 (2x2GB) CAS5 Dual Channel Kit (F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ)



Am I right in thinking this processor is the G0 version? Would differet mobo or ram be better??

Yes, that processor has the G0 stepping.

I'm not sure about the motherboard so you'll have to wait for other replies but you should be fine with some good quality PC2-6400 RAM rather than paying more for the PC2-8000 stuff
 
I choose the Asus P5K Premium WiFi as it appears to have the edge. The table contained within w33bos Quad Core overclocking thread will give you a good idea as to what all the 'cool kinds' are using to bake their Q6600's etc.

U got a link to that m8 having trouble finding is. Says user name w33bos is invalid
 
as mentioned pc6400 memory will be fine for the q6600, would suggest getting an after market cpu cooler as well, something like the tuniq tower etc, depending on how much you plan to overclock.

that rig will be fine for overclocking a quad, tho the ram is serious overkill, PC6400 would get you 3.6GHz with the ram at 1.1, presuming your coolings upto the job.
 
I went for the IP35Pro over the Asus, originally had the Asus board but after a host of problems I returned it and had it replaced with the ABit. I must say im well impressed with the IP35Pro. I was always an Asus boy before but have now been converted. The ABit just beats the Asus on all the extra little features.

Sounds interesting as I'm choosing between the Asus and the Abit. What specifically did you like with the Abit over the Asus?
