I will be fitting one on my system tonight. What is a safe/max Vcore for air cooling? I am using a Scythe something or other and 120mm fan

Also are average idle and load temperatures?

Thanks for info. VID is 1.325. I'll be happy enough if i can reach 3ghz

My housemates prebuilt median PC has a Q6600 in it, but a crap heatsink/fan. It reaches 60 on load when its at the default clock speed of 2.4ghz. Should i start to worry, say if mine gets to 75 or something?

I had my X2 3800+ chip up to 91c and had no problems with it

Its currently on 9 * 333. 1.5v in bios but cpuz shows 1.448v

Prime 95 has been running for the past 5 minutes and all 4 cores are between 48 - 54. When i try increasing the vcore a bit and FSB it restarts at 2.4ghz. I have been leaving memory along on 800mhz unlinked. What could i try to get it to 3.2? Whats 'exectute disable bit' and 'virtualisation' ?

Its not 1.5, its must be my motherboard with vdroop (?) as 1.5 shows 1.45. I have lowered it in bios to 1.45 and cpuz is now showing 1.392. Still ok at 3ghz. Will try for higher with same volts in a min

Memory is 2 sets of 2 x 1GB OCZ 6400 Plat series DDR2 800. Wont unlinked just limit the memory to 800mhz (its rated to 810 i think at 2.1v)

Temps i'm using coretemp, cooler is a Scythe and 120mm akasa fan. You are right, temps were low because i had prime on large fft instead of small. With 1.5volts bios (1.448 in cpuz) small FFT took temps to 70 then crashed shortly after. Now ive lowered the volts its ok

I tried for 3100mhz with the same volts and just hangs on the motherboard logo screen.

Do i need to change something on the momory?

15mins of prime 95 small fft - 59 - 66 in coretemp. Will get a pic of the current memory settings

Havent got a clue about these settings. Do I just put them up to 6-6-6-16 and leave the bottom stuff alone, or change bottom stuff too?

PC6400 should take a Q6600 to 3.6GHz without any memory overclocking.

If this is the case then im guessing its my XFX 650i motherboard to blame. Its on 1.392 volts now at 2.9ghz (9 x 322) Max temps in prime are 63c. If i start going much higher than 2.9 then its become instable when restarting, crashes on desktop or resets to 2.4ghz

Thats what i was thinking, im selling my 939 stuff soon and will look into getting maybe a Gigabyte P45 then selling my E2140 and XFX board.

How does the OCZ 6400 Plat series DDR2 800 clock? Would it be able to handle 400 x 9?

Currently running 3ghz (9 x 333) 1.368V.

Prime95 has been running for 30 minutes on small fft. Temps are 57 - 62 in Coretemp

2 hours of prime at 3ghz gets highest of 63c. Cant get it to 3.1 presumably because of gash motherboard. will sell old stuff and current board then get p45 or something

Now got a Gigabyte P45 DS3P installed. Theres loads of options. Im at 333x9 at the moment. Is the OCZ memory corect, showing 400mhz, 5:6, 5-5-5-15 2T

cpuz also shows 1.296v but prime95 takes temps up to 60c when at 3ghz. It doesnt like much higher but i thikn its something to do with the memory multiplier (SPD)

Theres something called MCH strapping than can be set to 266mhz, 333, 200, 400

edit - and about 1001 other options and advanced options

cpuz is now showing 1.328v. strange, im sure i turned off all the auto adjust options

Ive left stuff like bosters on standard, ram is rated at 2.1V but goes pink for some reason in BIOS. Rated at 4-4-4-15 but i have it on 5-5-5-15

What is drive control?

theres about 20 different settings for Vcore now too (other than the vcore main adjust)

Im on 333 x 9 again. Anyone have any clues on how to get it to 3.2ghz + Its on a Scythe and reaches 61c on full prime95 load at the moment

Could it be the OCZ limiting me or the cpu?

I found this on the net -

Available Northbridge/MCH Straps & Associated Memory Multipliers

200=800FSB
2.66
3.33
4.00
C

266=1066FSB
2.50
3.00
4.00
A

333=1333FSB
2.00
2.40
3.20
4.00
B

400=1600FSB
2.00
2.66
3.33
A

I dont understand this -- Memory Freq = FSB X Memory Multi

I can select upto a 9x multiplier. Would strapping would i need to get my 800mhz memory locked at 800, with my processor at 3.2ghz. Or just got for 400 x 8 with a strapping that shows nearest to 800mhz?

And MCH Core Voltage???...:confused:

MCH Core voltage is your Northbridge Voltage (Memory Controller) and the amount needed to be set depends on a few things. It depends on the FSB you are running, the Strap you are using, the actual Memory Multiplier you are using (Ram Speed) and the amount of physical Ram installed.

P45 MCH is a bit tricky as well, sometimes when you think you need more less would be better and visa versa. All of course depending on the other mentioned items above.

Here is some more of my findings about Voltages, just incase you planned ton tinkering with them all >>>>

Quote:
CPU Termination (Vtt) Automatically changes the following if manually set >>>

CPU Reference Voltage (.63% of Default Vtt/1.20)
CPU Reference2 Voltage (.67% of Default Vtt/1.20)
MCH Reference Voltage (.63% of Default Vtt/1.20)

DRAM Voltage Automatically changes the following if manually set >>>

MCH/DRAM Reference Voltage (.50% of Default Dram Voltage)
DRAM Termination Voltage (.50% of Default Dram Voltage)
Channel A Reference Voltage (.50% of Default Dram Voltage)
Channel B Reference Voltage (.50% of Default Dram Voltage)

If you want a higher or lower than stock % / Value for any of the above settings you will find it easier to set the Dram Voltage or Vtt back to stock (Or above or below to find and be able to choose alternate % Values), then adjust desired setting to the % / Value you wish to use.

Then once you have selected a % range you want to use for said setting then go back and raise your Vtt or Dram Voltage back to what you choose to use and the corresponding settings will self adjust

Interesting. I ran memtest86 with all 4 sticks in at stock speeds, auto settings on memory and 2.1v as they are rated. it crashed almost straight away.

I then tested 2 sticks which seemed fine for 5 minutes, then the other 2 were fine too. Tested 4 sticks again and they crashed.

Im currently running prime95 blend on all 4 sticks. 800mhz, 2.1v, 5-5-5-15

I think my problems may well be with having all 4 sticks in together. Anyone have any ideas on why memtest86 crashes with 4 in but is fine with 2? I noticed the channel settings are different in the bios, but have left them on auto
