As per this THREAD (post # 41).

A few people said i would struggle to get some decent clocks on my nice shiny new quad core Q6600.

So installed 10 mins ago booted straight in at 3419 (380 x 9) 1.45v bios 1.4v load.

So far temps seem good, so now for the stress test. Just started Prime 95 on blend. Heres a screeny for you guys. If i can't get 3.6 stable it's going to be a new mobo (P95).

That's pretty good going for a P965 board.

My P956 DS3 wouldn't go above 3ghz, but my Abit AB9 QuadGT managed 3.4ghz.
 
Noob of the week question here: how do i get prime to run a test on all 4 cores? when i kick it off it only does 1

Well as a reference I'm on a 965 ds3, and I'm currently at 3.33ghz and can and will go futher when I have the time

what cooler are you using, water?

My Q6600 has the same VID, but it will barely overclock without hitting ridiculous temps even lapped, though i am considering a TRUE120 cooler!

Well i booted at 3.5 ghz but blue screened after 10 seconds of P95.

Guess i'll have to tweak a bit more when i get time, then again ive got a buyer for my mobo so i might upgrade, noticed a few P35 mobo's in the sale section :)

As probably another noob question before i run prime, just how important is it to be prime stable. By that i mean if i just want to OC my processor to 3.9ghz (which i have now achieved thanks to this forum) to play flight sim (which is very CPU dependant) for 4 hours a night and it does that ok without a BSOD, but doesnt pass a prime test, how much does that matter???

Like i said, noob question, but then, thats me!
 
If the machine does everything that you ask of it without crashing then it's not really all that important.

But some of us need our machines to be a stable as possible and Prime95 goes a long way to ensuring that they are.

And ofcourse if you want an overclock to be taken seriously over here then a good 8 hour Prime95 stable screenshot goes a long way.
 
Well the max i have seen is 60 deg and that is on 2 cores while the other 2 being 54/55. While it hit 60 it wasn't for long before they dropped down again.

Well update i left the machine priming last night a total of 9 hours and core # 3 failed after 3 hrs while the other 3 were still going. I will have more time to tweak over the weekend but will be a getting a new mobo very soon. I have been looking at the sale section at the P35 mobo's and realise there may be parts missing (driver discs etc..) but i don't want a board with out the i/o shield so i'll ring ocuk to ask.

Otherwise anyone want to pick me a sub £50 board from there?

If you're prepared to take a chance on a B-grade mobo then the Abit IP35 would be the best choice from that list.
