Q6600 & P35 Overclocking woes

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong with this board but I cannot get it to overclock at all.

It's a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P with a Q6600 G0 Stepping, and 4GB of OCZ gold 1066 Ram in 2 sticks. The board boots and works fine as long as I leave it all on auto - but if I enable CPU Host Clock Control it won't get past the memory test in post even if I don't change anything. It simply hangs for a second then reboots with the default settings. What's infuriating is it even works fine with the auto overclock function, pushing the chip to close to 3ghz under load, but on auto it puts more than 1.5 vcore through it which seems far too much, so I want to be able to set it up myself.

I've updated the BIOS, cleared the CMOS and taken the battery out, tried manually setting the voltages, tried underclocking the CPU and RAM, tried different memory slots and I still can't get it past post if I enable Host Clock Control.

Any help would be appreciated at this point as I'm out of ideas.

EDIT: managed to fix it just short of sacrificing people and animals to the Gods - disabling "USB Legacy Support" was all that was needed :D
