Hi

Below is my setup:

Intel Q6600 Quad Processor
GIGA GA-P35-DS4 Motherboard
Crucial Ballistix 2 x 1 GB DDR2 8500 RAM
4 x Seagate Barracuda 500 GB HDD 7500.10

I have a new setup and when I checked the systems stats in Easy Tune 5.0 it showed 2 processors running at 2200.00 (or there abouts!).

Now after a while the freq has dropped to 1599.00 on both processors!

I have not OC or touched anything as I am a complete newbie to this area.

Can someone help me here?

Also, what are the best benchmark programmes out there which allow me to check EVERYTHING in my PC for performance etc.

I think that would be 2400 under load dropping to 1600 when relatively idle, which is normal. You'll need to alter your bios to keep it permantly at 2400, though other than for benching there little point. CPUz is pretty good. Check the stickies.

Like many others I use Everest, CoreTemp and CPUz.

For stress testing Prime95. Small FTT's to test the CPU but Blend is more suitable for testing the system - try both.

Most recommend not going over 70° C. If it goes over stop your testing.

Your Speed will be dropping because of Speedstep which you can stop but as suggested I wouldn't.

Is it common practice to disable speedsteping when working up to the maximum OC on a new rig and then re-enable it for everyday use?
