Got my Q6600 running at 2970mhz using a artic freezer 7 and a p5k motherboard, temps while idle are being displayed as 42 42 34 32 on core temp, cpu-z is showing the multiplier going to 6 sometimes instead of 9 aswell, not sure if this is just cpu-z acting up though.

Is the idle temps for this overclock good? And is the CPU-z issue anything to worry about?

Cheers

cant really tell much from idle temps need to see what the load temps are, download prime95 and coretemp and see what you get when you load the CPU

What CPUZ is showing is speedstep, basically a power saving feature, where it drops the CPU multiplier and therefore clock speed to save power whilst the machine is idle or not doing much, nothing to worry about

I used to do a lot of Ocing back in the day of 166mhz pentium mmx and 233 pentium 2s, and abit of amd ocing, but this vcore stuff is all new to me, all I've down really is upped the fsb manually to 330!

What sort of vcore you got running through urs?

well vcore depends on the clock you want to run at would have a read through those threads will explain all and give you some settings to start playing about with

Just been reading that Pneumonic, its really telling me that my vcore is quite low compared to other oc'd systems, could it be a case of too much artic silver? or the way I've got the fan connected? Do you have you fan rigged to a 3 pin for mb control or hooked straight to the juice?

Hi again mate

Just testing it here, and im doing all 4 cores, got the affinitys set on prime, and the temps according to core temp is 59,58,52,51 and vcore is around 1.160.

Thats the temps with all cores on test 5 of prime 95, which I got off

http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm

which I assume is the right version to use!

If this is running the same as last night I guess the ambient temps in my room might have been a lot higher last night!

Any ideas?

Got an antec p180, freezer 7 pro, all 3 120mm fans running at medium settings.

Is there much difference between, will asus probe show my fan speeds, not sure what rpm the fan runs at at full?

tbh I have no idea, for a prime95 test would run them all at full.. your pc for 24/7 use will never get as hot as it will when using prime you can drop them back down once you have got stable I should think

Alright mate, Well I reckon Ill leave the overclocking there now, was just worried about the temps!

It it 61c on that prime, but that should be ok, as you say its never gonna get that hot under normal playing conditions!

Cheers
