Hi,

New to all this sort of thing but I put together a Q6600/DFI BIP35-T2R "Blood Iron" mobo setup and stuck it together, left it running headless in the cupboard (home test server for programming stuff etc) and I have just noticed it seems to be running below stock speed? CPU-Z says 1600MHz - I thought it might be some sort of speedstep thing but despite me running four SETI threads and three Virtual Machines all at once, it hovers at 1600MHz all the time:

I am assuming I have set up the mobo incorrectly but am a bit loathe to go pull the case from the cupboard as it means hooking it up to the monitor/keyboard/mouse etc all over again - is there any way I can check remotely what settings are set?

It is running at 6x 266. Must be either Speedstep or you have a 6x multiplier set in the BIOS.

So for 2400MHz I should be at 266 x ?? please? Haven't had to do any of this stuff for years, and can I modify this remotely or is it a definite phtsical reboot/BIOS thing please?

9x

Set in the BIOS.

Also double check that you have E1ST and C1E turned off in the BIOS if you want Speedstep off.

Running something that loads your CPU will soon show if it is Speedstep. Based on your image above the cores (all of them) are sitting idle so Speedstep will lower the multiplier to 6x.

Just a quick reboot and check in the BIOS, multiplier was set to 6x.. changed to 9x and now it's running at 2400MHz under stress - thanks very much for your help :)
I left Speedstep enabled, not really worried about any idle processing hit as this box is just going to be stressed maybe 5-6hrs a day and then sitting idling and running a few Virtual Machines for the rst of the time.

lol thanks guys, it's been a while since I've built a new system and I was in kind of a rush to get it installed and running without doublechecking everything :)
