My q6600 is showing only 3 cores in cpu-z, I only noticed this after I used Fritz chess benchmark and it only gave the me the option to select 3 cores, also msconfig/advanced settings has me in there as max 3 cores. Is my cpu on the road out,is it possible to have a failed core and it keeps working?

Is it possible I need to reset bios/comos or a clean install of windows. Anyone seen this before or have experiance of my missing core,I have had the q6600 about 5 years

Cpu was clocked at 3.3ghz..I have just now reset back to 2.4 and 4 cores are back, seems the 24/7 overclock has took its toll after 5 years..

Do a BIOS reset see if it picks it back up in BIOS.

If that doesn't work it might be worth taking the CPU out, giving the socket a clean and remounting it.

try what was said above, though its worth noting had a 'similar' thing happen to my Q6600 a short while ago, but instead of one core it was two, could never get them to 'reappear' so had to assume that one half of the dual-die processor had died, since Q6600 are essentially two E6600 strapped together on one PCB.

Reset back to stock and stock voltage and the 4 cores are now back, temps are fine when OC. I am back at 3.2 and so far 4 cores have remained. I will keep an eye on it ;)
