Hi lads, I have a overclocking spec for a friend, can anyone see any flaws in this setup or any changes they would have?

Q6600 G0
Asus P5k Premium
OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz SLI-Ready Edition Low Latency DDR2
AC7 pro
BFG GeForce 9600 GT OC 512MB GDDR3

Please note he already has the Q6600 and the RAM. The RAM is SLi but i think it should still work with a non sli board?

Thanks Dom

you dont get sli ram, you get dual channel configs which afaik all mobos support, the ram will not be an issue, everything is ok, just wait for the graphics cards and bear in mind the ac pro is a fine hsf but has a tendancy to slip off in transport as the clips dont seem that great and it is not held in place with a back plate.

Yeah the RAM being Sli ready shouldn't affect the performance or anything even though you're not actually implementing an Sli setup. I think the only difference between Sli ready RAM and normal RAM is the fact that you get a teeny bit more speed out of an Sli setup when using Sli ready memory.

Oh and if you intend to clock the Q6600, hope it all goes well :) from what I've heard you can get 3.2Ghz out of them relatively easily.

yeah, should be able to get a good clock from the Asus board. I have the AC7 pro and I h8 those push pin clips.

What would be good case to put this in? I have an Antec P180 and I think its amazing but it is alittle pricey, is there any other alternatives?

Also what PSU would you recommend? I have the HX620w but I think thats a little overkill for his setup.

The P180 is a great case but like you say it's a bit on the expensive side. I've currently got all my stuff in an Antec 900 and that's all running fine, and you get some pretty good airflow from all the fans they put in with it.

620W does seem like a bit too much but I suppose it could future proof it to an extent if your friend ever does decide to go Sli or put in a few more HDD's or whatever. All the things I've heard about the HX520w seem to be good, and that leaves a bit of overhead power if the graphics card ever gets upgraded or something like that.

Would this be okay for this setup:
Antec Sonata III Piano Black Quiet Case - EarthWatts 500W PSU

Okay lads thanks for the help :D

i dont class 620w as being overkill tbh. i have an Antec True Power Trio 650w, its not exactly as overkill as a 1000w would be. its good enough to power a decent setup and its worth getting a decent one for futureproof etc. i think a standard to aim for is around 500 ish. but then again its not all based on the Wattage of a PSU there are things to take into account like how many rails it has and the voltage they supply and so on. Only reccomendation there is to go for a well known make.

as for the case i'd recommend my current case the Antec 900 Gamers case as its got Very good cooling with 3 120mm fans and a 200mm top fan. also its quite roomy inside and accomodates the biggest cards on the market at the moment (such as the 8800 GTX)
