Q6600 Step up?

Had a Q6600 processor for a while now and looking for the next step up - any suggestions for procesors prefereably under £400!

But hold off because there are price cuts this month and also a 65w version of the Q9550 processor which should overclock much better.

Dont think 9550 from 6600 is that great a step up... Save up some cash and step to an I7 core... Much more worthwhile

Yup no point unless you go i7

Or you can wait for the 32nm CPU's from Intel to come out and then you can do a full upgrade. You seem to have more than enough power until Q4 2009 when the 32nm are supposed to be coming out.

Thats what I am planing on doing, 32nm i7 and then new build as long as DDR3 and MB prices come into line. Looked into Core2 upgrades for my CPU so i could my existing gear but it just wassent worth it.

I would say the Q9550 is a step up in processor terms but if i personally was parting with the cash now i would wait and keep tabs on the I7 parts as many have mentioned.

No point in paying a premium for yesterdays technology.

Yeah , not bad at all. I think many got far more ghz from the Q6600 though ( Eg - stock 2.4ghz OC'ed to 3.8ghz and beyond ). I have mine mostly @ 3.4ghz and at times when transcoding i can raise it to 3.8ghz no problem using Arctic freezer pro. I personally struggle to reach 4ghz stable though. But i have the original C1 stepping. The new ones should be E0 and clock better.
