Hey all, hope you can offer some advice on my question.

Basically i have overclocked my Q6600 from 2.6 to 3.2ghz. Its sitting inside a Antec Sonata 3 case (not the best for ventilation i know) but it has the Tuniq Tower 120, an added 120mm fan at the front and added system exhaust (Not great, but it offers extra cooling and costs £3)

Anyways when idle Coretemp shows the cores sitting between 32-35 and under full load (Prime 95) the temperatures shoot up to the range of between 62-69 now is this safe and is there anything i can do to reduce these temperatures.

Most ppl only seem to have a 15-20 degree rise under load not 30ish.

many thx in advance

idle temps will depend on the ambient in the case to some extent buy 32-35 is fine... again you load temps in Prime95 are fine (personally up to 75c I am fine with)... saying that for your setup and heatsink the temps do look a little hot...

I would firstly suggest if you havent done so already you find the lowest voltage for that clock should be pretty close to the CPU's VID voltage

Ok i've been playing around a bit, i'm now running the CPU at 3.2ghz 9x356 (3204 technically) and i've taken the voltage from 1.34 to 1.265 bit of a beginners mistake but we all gotta learn some how :)

anyways the temperature under load is currently 54-55c max so thats a nice 10c lower, and is prime stable or at least has been for the past 20mins.

I did try to take it down to 1.245 but the computer froze when running prime.

Should i aim for lower or is this a acceptable running temperature?

thx for the advice thus far Pneumonic

well those are prime load temps so never going to reach that in day-to-day running, I would suggest a maxium of 70/75c for prime95 load temps using Small FFTs, you certainly have some room there for some more clock
