I'm currently running a Q6600 processor with an IP35-E motherboard, and something appears to be wrong.

I am registering temperatures around 80oc idle and 90 under very light load, at which point the computer is set to shutdown - Which gets annoying, as I'm sure you will understand.

I'm aware fitting an after market cooler will some what help, if nt solve, this issue and I fully intend on getting one. However, is there something else wrong as well? Do Quad's normally run this high?

you've almost certainly bodged the heatsink install. you'll need to remove it, clean off the gunk with some TIM cleaner and re-apply some more and try again.

Visually it looks fine, but I'll give it a go. I'll have to wait till I can get some paste tomorrow though, is it going to harm the cpu running it that hot for the mean time?

i think your pc will automatically shutdown if it gets too hot. even so, i wouldn't be happy running at those temps. i'd power down for now and wait.... :p
