Currently running the CPU at 2.4ghz (stock). 1.31v.

When running Small FTT i get cores temps of 60, 55, 55, 60 from core temp. Occassionly core 1 and 4 go to 61.
Are these temps high? I looking to OC to around 3.2ghz initially, i dont think ill need to up the voltage to do to (400fsb x8 multi) but Im a bit worried the Cores are running too hot, i do realise the cpu wont be stressed this much during normal/games usage. Whatis considered a safe temp?
Interesting the core run this hot but the actual CPU as a whole never exceeds 50degs according to my motherboards software. But i think the cores are more important!

Im using one of these:

Zalman Cooler

It has been fitted in the last few days using Artic Silver 5, im thinking the pate still needs to cure, but i wouldnt think it should make that much difference.

I thought these were supposed to be good, every other zalman ive had has been good. Im tempted to get a nocturna instead, should this be better?

From speedfan and my mobo software, it says my CPU temp is 17deg. That seems very cool, but the cores at stock just run hot (30deg at idle). Any ideas on what is causing this? Anything i could try apart from a new CPU HSF?
Ive tried reapplying the Artic Silver 5 and it did make a difference now its done it properly.

30C at idle seems about right. Are you using speedstep? 61C seems ok too. depends on the temp of the room & air flow thru case.
My cpu is 4C cooler when the gpu is not flat out.

Always worth trying. There are threads here about o/cing the Q6600.
Easiest 1st step is to up the FSB to 1333 & vcore to 1.4
See this also what can be done
Make sure you don't o/c yr RAM until you know what the CPU will do.
Increase volts in small steps from 1.4 until stable.
Watch yr temps + good luck

i have about the same temps as you mate and i am using almost the same cooler zalman 9500 LED version

today i ordered a noctua cooler to replace the zalman cos it whines soon as the temp goes up abit other than that i would have been happy with it
(your cooler don't have the same fan btw mines the led version )

this whining was is so annoying i couldnt oc my rig ( soon as i did oc to 3ghz
the whining started)

this started a war on noise lol so far costing over £200 in parts lol

My Ram is at its stated speed :D

My Fans whines too. It is annoying.
Well at 3.0ghz I get temps of around 63deg.

Sniperdude can you let me know if the noctua makes any difference, i was thinking of Swapping mine out as well.
