Q6600 Temps

Hey guys,

I recently purchased a P5K off ebay to overclock my Q6600 with. I was using a Gigabyte GA965PS3 which was comfortably running 3.0ghz at stock volts. Temps on this board were approx 40deg idle 55 deg under load.

I installed my P5K this evening and my idle temps have been around 60 deg at stock speeds! I've already reapplied the thermal compount (Arctic Silver) which has made no difference and have tried various other rearrangements in my case but it hasn't made any difference. I'm really at a loss on what to do.

Could anyone offer some advise on what to try next?

Many thanks

Julian

I have an Arctic 7 cpu cooler, 2 large (92mm?) fans blowing air in and 1 blowing out. This setup had it running at 35deg idle on the old mobo.

The new motherboards BIOS settings for the CPU fan may be set differently. I.E The Maximum Temp, lowest fan speed and Target Temp may be different.

Take a look. This is assuming you've mounted it to the new motherboard properly and didn't apply too much TP

Does it use mounting system similar to intel stock heatsink? Also what is the VID of the cpu? Can be found by downloading and running coretemp program.

I don't know about mountings I've never used a stock cooler with this chip. About thermal paste, I've used it various times without problmes so I cant see that being the problem.

CPU fan speed is a solid 1700 rpm, the VID is 1.3250.

Cheers

Julian

are you taking temps from BIOS or something else mate?

also how long have you let the thermal paste bed in? as even my TRUE 120 was idling at 40+ degrees for the first week at 3.3ghz but since then it has dropped to circa 30 degrees and even at 3.51ghz i dont see those temps

Hope that helps

Ben

I'm using the Bios, CoreTemp and Realtemp - all within 5 degrees of each other.

Thats the only thing I was thinking, leave it to bed in, so to speak.

Think it would be worth leaving it running all day?

depends how often you are on the machine mate, at present, I get to use it an hour or so a day and then tuesday night I game all evening......so if you left it on all day today that should bed it in a good amount i reckon. Bare in mind its meant to be 23 degrees today tho :)

Same for me, off all day then a good amount of useage in the evening!

I'll leave it on all day and see how it goes. Will report back this eve!

Thanks again.
