Anyone know the max temp threshold of this CPU, Just applied some thermal paste to the processor and running 1 instance of convertxtodvd the CPU all cores hover around 55C, was wondering if this is too high for freshly add thermal paste or this is hte usual start temp til it sets.

I would like to know now if I have not put enough on or I have done it wrong.

Ty for reading.

freshly add thermal paste
Fresh paste takes a few days approx to settle in so the temps will always be higher at first. To speed up the curing time make sure to perform plenty of thermal cycles on the machine (i.e switch it off for a few hours every now and then during the first few days.

I have no idea what cooler you are using or what voltage the cpu is getting but really nice load temps under air are about 50°C and if your overclocked and overvolted try and keep load temps below 65°C.

They can run a lot hotter but as a rule of thumb I always like to keep between 50°C to 65°C load and about 30°C to 35°C idle, thats with good air cooling btw.

My core 0 runs about 4C higher than the other cores on my Q6600. I can't be stressed with taking it all apart to check the heatsink but it's a Thermalright and I think I've seen reports of some of them not having a flat base.

Oh well, it peaks at about 60C under full load overclocked to 3.1GHz so I suppose that's still safe.

One at work has been doing renderings and runs at 85C (tops ever seen) loaded on all cores for as long as the G0 stepping came out :) At 3Ghz 1.3v, constraints of room cooling and keeping it quiet.
