q6600 thermal compound!!!!!!!!!

we're using the fan that came with it. there are 3 strips on the bottom of the heatsink, (the one supplied with cpu). we touched these grey strips against the cpu and it got greasy.. we're thinking that this is the thermal stuff now. are we correct?
