I have a Q6600 overclocked to 3.2 on a P5Q.My questions are, what is the fastest processor (not overclocked) I could fit on to my P5Q motherboard and would there be a noticable difference in performance?Other parts of my set up are ATI 4850 512,,,4GB ram,,,Samsung 2253bw monitor,,Windows 7 .32bit.

You wouldn't. Your cpu is nicely overclocked. Save the money and buy somthing like a better gpu, and install windows 7 64bit to use your full 4gb's of memory.

Lots of people (lots and lots) are saying ATi/AMD cards get you better value for money at the moment. I've always liked nVidia cards though. Currently got a GTX260, and it plays everything i've got at pretty much max. Fallout 3 has a weird bug that causes it to crash at 4x AA though, so i leave that at 2x. Still looks fantastic though.

i went from a [email protected] to a q9650 @ 3.6ghz, main difference i saw was that the q9650 ran cooler and did my video encoding quicker, in games only supreme commander seemed quicker with the 9650 when i had loads of units on screen.

going from a good quad core like the q6600 to a faster quad core is pointless unless u need the cpu speed in a specific area (video encoding for me). next logical step up from a quad core is to a 6 or 8 core preffereably.

i stepped up from q6600 to 9650 when they were cheap so the transition only cost me 20 quid or less even.

I wouldn't go from a 22" monitor to a 24" seems a bit of a pointless upgrade to me.

Only logical upgrades to me would be GFX or an SSD and you're probably more likely to see the biggest performance boost with an SSD.

Edit:

SSD's

If you stretch to the 128GB then this: Crucial M225 128GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive (CT128M225)

If not the 64GB will do for OS and your key 1 or 2 games: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-002-CR&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=910

GFX

Maybe this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-215-AS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1502

get that quad higher like setter said, you should get 3.6ghz with not too much effort, 3.8ghz with some tweaking.

wont give you a massive difference, but you will notice it still.

a 5850 would be a good graphics card upgrade but you would have to wait for it to come back into stock, and the price has just gone up to £240+ on this website

Well l would wait for Xmas for getting new hardware. You don't seem to be having any problems with the current setup. Hopefully ATI will manage to sort their availability issues and the prices will hopefully drop.
