Q6600 upgrade itch

Power is back. Trying now at 6x425 to see if a) the board will take a fsb that high and b) if the memory will run at 850 instead of 800. I don't think the Geil Black Dragon 2x2gb stuff was ever known as overclockable.

Seemed happy at 6x425. Now at 8x425 = 3.4ghz. If its stable here i'll start backing the vcore down.

what other changes have you made aside from raising the vcore ?

fairly certain the black dragon stuff did okay, so you might get lucky.

Hi all, first post!
I think I'm in an almost identical situation... Upgrade or save a little and replace.
It is my only machine, and I'm thinking that it would be nice to have a new setup always working properly and to delve into the depths of OC'ing on this one.

Upgrade would probably have to include RAM, MB (Sli capable), 2nd 460GTX at some point which may well then require a new PSU so I have some concern about pouring money into an old rig....

Replacement options... may require some saving time ,and would probabaly be willing to fork out MAX £600.
I have a friend who works for Intel, so may be able to get one item for 35% of cost (I been eyeing that 6 core extreme chip)

My questions is: how long do you guys think this rig will last me?
a. how it is now,
b. with upgrade and more OC
c. Is it even possible to get any more OC out of it with this MB?
d. If I can't make use of my Intel friend, what would you recommend as replacement?

Thanks in advance

Will last as long as the q6600 at your maximum 24/7 overclock isn't a bottleneck for your chosen Video card.

Bit disappointing that 250 post rule. I buy computer gear all the time and would rather buy from a trustworthy source on here than elsewhere. Recently I would have looked for a 460GTX and 4 GB RAM on here and maybe a new mobo and hard drive, but I have been forced to turn to ebay which is not my cup of tea. :(

How long will it take me to get to 250+ posts without spamming!!!

The reason the MM is a trustworthy source is BECAUSE of rules like the 250+ post one.

Q6600 still run everything thrown at them just fine, would save your cash for now and see what Bulldozer brings to the table, and decide then whether its worth while upgrading CPU, best upgrade at the minute is GFX as they tend to offer more worthwhile performance increase. :)

Really? I always thought it was 250 posts and nothing less  I usually ask my mate to do it as he has access to it but it would be good to have it on my account. I'm more of a lurker than a poster so getting to 250 would take me years lol
