I currently have a reasonably low vid Q6600 clocked to 3.6ghz on H50 cooling

My motherboard is a Gigabyte EP45-DS3P

Do you think I would be able to get 4ghz out of a Q9550 on my current cooling? (H50 with 2 Noctua p12 in push pull)

Maybe it would be an investment if I could sell my Q6600 for around £75 and buy a Q9550 for around £120 - £140. I dont know much about the q9550 except E0 is the one to go for SLB8X is E0, SLAWZ is C1.

Rest of my rig is a 5770 and 4gb

What do you use your PC for?

If it's gaming I would upgrade your graphics card.

I don't think it's worth spending money on another quad core, I would save your money and upgrade your mobo, CPU and ram later. If you had a dual core I would upgrade, but not swap a 6600 for a Q9550.

Most C1 and E0 Q9550 do about 3.8MHz, only a few do 4Ghz plus.

I don't know how good the boards are for maximum FSB,
but if that's what's limiting you with the Q6600 (9.0 multi)
then you will be likely end up with a lower clocked Q9550 (8.5 multi)

Edit: quick google suggests 500 FSB is doable, just depends on wether it can with a q9550.
