Q6600 Vs. E6850

I've made up my mind on an E6850 after lots of thought simply because I don't want to overclock a Q6600 and find myself unhappy with the high temps. That and the fact that although more games will come with quad-core support, a dual-core processor should happily be enough and I'll be aiming for an overclock on the E6850 of 3.6-3.8Ghz on air.

early reports are about 4ghz on stock cooler (thats going on the e6750's results) whether they will actually achieve this is a different matter, as most of the cpu's tested to date are all engineering samples, so they could perform better or worse than the released cpu's...

I'm after either an e6750/e6850/q6600

But i want to clock the hell out of it, so am awaiting propper release and lots and lots of reviews :D (i want 4ghz.. hehe, or at least 3.4 if its quad... im greedy :p)

4ghz would be great .do you think the prices might come down a little more for the E6850 after the 22nd ?

I doubt it, I think gibbo said maybie £10/20 that's about it, tbh I don't think they need to really as I think the demand for these chips will be quite high, personaly I think £199 for the E6850 is a bargain anyway, I paid arounf £800 for an X6800 when they first came out, lucky I wised up and sold it and decided to o/c my E6300 instead.

Can't see many of these reaching 4Ghz on air tbh. The new stepping might help a bit but they're still the same 65nm process.

Think you'll have to wait for Penryn on 45nm before 4Ghz on air becomes commonplace.

Aye, i will make a big loss on it but thats the price you pay if you jump in head first as soon as something new comes out :) .
