Further to my thread a couple of weeks ago, I have now decided (thanks to the advice here!) to take the plunge this weekend and order my kit of parts.

Only a few simple questions remain:

Is there much to be gained from the Q6700 over the Q6600 processor? There's not much price difference, so may I as well go for the 6700?

I take it that because it is socket 775, I don't need to reconsider my motherboard?

Cheers
Pete

unless you have a very very bad FSB limited MB, and the higher multiplier is needed, a q6700 is just as likely to hit 3.6 as a q6600 with a TRUE

Right-O. I'll go for the Q6600 - thanks guys!!

Is there a difference in what I get between the retail and non-retail versions?

The retail version is £6 cheaper (which seems strange to me)....

I guess the retail is just cheaper because it's on offer.

The difference is the retail one comes with heatsink and fan whereas the OEM one just comes in a crappy box with just the chip.

Doesn’t the Retail CPU come with longer warranty? 3yrs compared to 1 for OEM which is a good, also above you get the stock HSF also a Intel case sticker etc :p

Thanks all for your help with this !!

Very much appreciated.

I'll go for the retail version.

Regards
Pete
