well after i put 4gb ram in my system my fsb is now limited to 430 on a E6300 thats 3010mhz not really enough for me atm with a 8800 gtx i struggle in tf2 24 player servers in some really hectic bits(40fps) but the prices of these still kinda put me off.

ive always been a fan of cheap overclockable cpu's from a xp 2500-M to the p4d 830 and then the E6300 and would love to see Q6600 G0's at the £100 mark.

currently this week with a decent cooler it would still cost around 180 quid how long u guys reckon until they drop again?

i would like one for christmas tbh along with a thermaltake big typhoon and a crazy 120cfm delta fan(loud but will lower other system fans speeds to accomodate hopfully). my board does 400+fsb so i could expect 3.6 with that cooling setup u guys reckon maybe more?

The delta will be like placing a hoover on your desk. I dont think they scale well

The cpu price will drop Q1 2008 maybe, I cant see them being 100 though

they are going to only frop 10-20£ here and there....certainly no major drops I would think. They are allready reasonably priced at the moment I would say. Got mine at 3.5Ghz on air with a Tuniq Tower. But depends on the CPU you get...you would get easily 3.2-3.3Ghz...thats for sure.

yep i have tried settings fsb voltage and mch to 0.2 and ram to 5-5-5-18 and still wasnt stable it was with 2gb. this was 440fsb which was my max anyways anything over this ie 445 *** reset the bios. it is either the limit of the DS3 mobo or the ram im not quite sure tbh :( either way its stable on 430fsb so i didnt lose too much speed id love to get above 430 tho

At the current point in time the entry level price point for a quad core is not set to change and from the roadmaps for the Jan 08 products Q9300 will replace Q6600 at exactly the same price point. The only hope is that AMD pull something out of the bag and force Intel to push Quad prices down.

only thing now thats holding me back is this http://www.diy-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=77619

ive got the same mobo i wonder has anyone else got the GA-965P-DS3 and has overclocked thier Q6600 around 400fsb which is what i want 3.6ghz. i use f4 bios as well i really dont want to have to update it :/

The F12 BIOS is supposed to increase Q6600 FSB overclocking from ~330mhz to ~380mhz.

Tho I never got to try it as I upgraded to my P35 DS3P three days before they released F12

that was the p35 tho will i have the same problem in the 965 DS3? pointless buying one if i have to buy a new mobo it would be better waiting until penyrn hmm how would i go about finding out about how bad a Q6600 overlocking is on my mobo?

banged on f12 bios last night and see 3d mark 06 has jumped 500 points :o same cpu score but different sm 2.0 and 3.0 scores up from 4900 to 5100

now do i take the risk on a g0 or not :(

Just thought i'd mention, i've got a Q6600 and recently added another two sticks of ram to my pc.

After quite a bit of fiddling and reading i found out that adding more sticks of ram puts more stress on the northbridge (which should have been obvious really), i had to bump up the nb volts and the fsb volts on my p35c gigabyte board to get back to my previous fsb.

965 DS3 & DS4 are pretty much the same board arnt they but the ds4 has the healpipe cooling, i've just ordered one of these chips and the highest BIOS avail was F10. (ds4)

If the current news postings are to believed, you might find the q6600 going UP in price shortly due to huge shortages.

Only a Fudz report but you have been warned.

Q6600's will be phased out, and replaced by the new Penryn line in the first quarter of 2008. I very much doubt there will be any significant price drop. Although I dont they will go up either.

Why are they dropping them? Only one of the currnet line-up of penyrns has a multiplier over 8....seems a bit of a silly thing to do if you ask me; if you are running a p35 board or similar you need very fast ram just to get a decent overclock on these penryns. Q6600 still seems very much in with the competition with its 9 multi.

a crazy 120cfm delta fan(loud but will lower other system fans speeds to accomodate hopfully)

Don't bother turning your other system fans down, I have a Delta 120 in an Antec 900 case and the difference in noise between having all 4 case fans on low or high is inperceptible because the Delta makes enough noise to drown them all out.

I have a vantec tornado, powerfull enough to slice my finger open unfortunately. Anyway the only time I use is to get the absolute max from a card without any hard mods, you can turn it down but that mighty electric engine never becomes silent or unnoticable.

A normal desktop fan would be a better choice in many ways because the main noise will be the whoosh of the air rather then the higher pitch of a high rpm motor, my system isnt silent but its generally low pitch noise, humming type which is easier on the ear
