Ok,

thought I would have another go at OCing my PC again.
I have been running it at 2.7 for as long as I can remember, the fsb is set at 1200, I increased to 1400 and ok but had little gain in the cpu.
So I figure increase again as per suggestions from the forum in the past, as soon as I increase the fsb to 1600 it just hangs.

If I remember I ran it at 3.0ghz on a P35 board by just increasing the FSB.

Do you reckon its the Asus striker?

suggestions most welcome.

thanks

Hey

Ive had my E8500 @ 3.8Ghz for over a year, (maanged to bench it at 4.2Ghz)on my striker extreme.

I dismantaled it yesterday though to build a new i7 system. But here are my settings:

Unlinked
FSB (QDR) Mhz = 1600
MEM (DDR) Mhz = 800

VOLTAGES:
Vcore = 1.35v
Memory = max manufactor rated
1.2HT = 1.25v
NB Voltage = 1.35v (i needed a 90mm fan sat over the NB to keep it cool)
SB Voltage = 1.50v
CPU VTT Voltage = 1.25v

System clocks:
PCIEX 16_1 Frequency 101
PCIEX 16_2 Frequency 101
PCIEX 16_3 Frequency 101
SPP <-> MCP Auto

I set my RAM timings manually which were 4-4-4-12 (2clock)

This is my opinion only, but dont go over the below voltages.
Vcore = 1.45 max
Memory = max manufactor rated
1.2HT = 1.50 max
NB Voltage = 1.45 max
SB Voltage = 1.55
CPU VTT Voltage = 1.40 max

Good luck. and keep an eye as always on your temps, you can fry an egg on the NB as im sure you know.

found some Q6600 OC

You will not get a Q6600 much above 3gig (1333 or 1334 FSB) on a striker extreme.

You will need to uprate the northbridge cooling, increase the NB voltage by +0.1 - everything else should run at stock voltages ok.

Better yet do yourself a favor like I did:

and get a real motherboard.

^^ haha, i remember that thread, maniac! ;)

Its been a really good mobo for me. But you do need some patience to clock it.

I spent quite a bit of time to get my Q6600 to a 3gig overclock and hours to get it to 3.2gig stable on that board... swapped for a P35 board and it did 3.6gig stable with a little tweaking, swapped for a P45 and it went straight in at just shy of 4gig... then went to the 750i board where I managed 3.6gig with a LOT of tweaking - but now dropped a Q9550 in the 750i and it went to 3.825gig no hassle and can manage over 4gig but that requires too high voltages due to the vdrop/droop with the nFail chipset :(
