Hey all, just a quick question. Basically i currently have my q6600 overclocked to 3.2ghz with a 356x9 mulitplier. I'd like to get it running on 400x8 to achieve the same speed, but just so i can get ram running on a 1:1 ratio, as i'm thinking of upgrading to 8gb for 3ds max, and i have heard of problems when o/cing 8gb ram.

Anyways when i change the cpu from 356x9 to 400x8 the computer just errors and won't load up windows, boots up just fine but blue screens before starting windows and restarts.

need some advice or help pls as i'm stumped why it won't work, seeing as its actually the exact same speed and voltage.

Specs are Q6600 G0 version
Abit IP35 mother board
OCZ Vista gold series ram 6400

many thx in advance

What voltages are you using at the moment? You may need a bit more voltage on the northbridge or the FSB.

if you bump the vcore a little it should be fine, i had to do this moving from 3.0 to 3.2 even at 1.3125 the droop levels it out at around 1.27-1.28 so it needs a little extra juice

edit

whats the vcore reading in bios after the change?, also whats the pwm temp at?

edit again..

your not running on the stock heat sink are you?

ok so i've tried it at 1.3450 and 1.3650 still having problems. on another note, Baked you asked if i ran my ram at 5-5-5-15 is it worth dropping from 18 to 15?
