Hi ive just upgraded my dads pc (early xmas pressie) from a e2180 to a q6600 but it wont boot, i put the e2180 back in and it boots, then put the q6600 back in and it wont boot, it has the latest bios, ive reset defaults, reset cmos, changed ram freq to 800 with e2180 in before i swapped it the second time, still nothing.

The mb is a asus p5kc with 2x 1gb ddr2 1066, also tried 1 stick.

Ive run out of ideas, i also have a p5kc with 2x1gb ddr2 1066 in ,my spare pc, im thinking of trying it in, but i dont think there will be any diff.

With the q6600 The pc sounds like its starting up but the screen is blank and it doesn't beep, but when the e2180 is in, it beeps and starts up no problem.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

I've just done the same upgrade and even though I forgot to change from my 3GHz E2180 BIOS settings the Q6600 still worked (@ 300FSB x 9 = 2.6GHz).

Sounds like you've tried everything I would have.

I assume the Q6600 you're trying is known to be good?

I would try it in your other system first just to double check if the CPU is good or not, then you know for sure.
