Q6600 Wont Overclock

Boys, I had this exact same problem with a p35c-ds3r yesterday, wouldn't even let a 1 mhz overclock. Now I know this could overclock because I had done so to 3.4 last week but turned it down when I went on hols. There was one setting I had to change in the bios to get this working. High Speed DRAM DLL Settings had to be changed to option 2 instead of option 1 and it all worked again. The weird thing is I'm sure that was on Option 1 when it worked last time.

Let me know if this works for anyone else.

edit..

the above doesn't seem to be the fix.. It appears to be luck that it worked when I changed this..
Altho it was all overclocked and showing in windows when I tried to re-enter bios it restarted again and upon entering it was back to overclocking turned off.
I tried changing between option 1 and 2 on dram and this wouldn't work any more.
I loaded optimal defaults and restarted. Entered bios again and set all my settings and it worked.
This is with the dram on option1 not 2 so my first guess was way off.

HTH

Ok.. Upon restarting the system it got to post screen and then did the restart again like it normally does when it disables the overclocking. I checked it and it was off again. I have 2 identical systems and one kept them where one didn't. The only difference between the 2 machines is one has an external usb hard disk connected formatted as fat. I decided to try turning the drive off during boot and it kept it's settings every time.

For me it is the usb drive causing the problems so I just turn it on once in windows. Maybe this can help you troubleshoot it further.

Just to add when I had the exact problem with the DQ6 it was with an Enermax Infiniti too. I did not think to swap it with another as I'd never heard of a PSU preventing a 1MHz overclock

Hi
Just an update
I have bought a coolermaster 850 watt psu and the dq6 is running fine and clocking.
I'am off now to try a crossfire setup of 2 2900 pro's (with the 2900 xt bios mod)

@Kobrakai - If you want I'll take a look at it for you. I've got DS4's and DQ6's that are running 3.4GHz+ with Q6600's.

Let me know. I'm only down the road.
