Q6600

I have water, PA120.2 DDC 18w upgraded top etc.

Vista 64bit and 4gigs is essential as I do a lot of VM.

I was waitting for Q9450 basically, but the high price and low overclockability made me consider the above components (on special also).

PS: plan is to overclock to the limits of the CPU as cooling is available

I also wanted the Q9450, but with prices very high (270 - 290) and the excellent overclockability of the G0 Q6600 ( the one you listed ) I went with the Q6600.

I am very happy with it. Just stick a decent cooler on it and you are set. I have the arctic freezer 7 Pro - mine clocked at 2.925 (I'm very conservative) is running max 53 degrees C (usng core temp to find individual cores temps).

Cooling is not a problem here on a dedicated PA120.2. I plan to hit 4Ghz, if the cpu can follow.

Yes, the 270 price tag for a "lucky dip" chip which can hit a wall at 3Ghz does not sound like a good choice.

In the long run, the Q6600 at 4Ghz will be unbeatable even though clock for clock the Q9450 is faster, the bad news is that it will never reach 4Ghz stable from what I ve seen.
