I'm looking into system upgrades as I would like higher minimum FPS in BFBC2.

If I upgrade to an ATI6950 or GTX480, will be Q6700 be much of a bottleneck? If it is, then I'll probably wait for my work bonus to see if I can do a more major overhaul.

Thanks.

I have a q6700 @ 3.6 (have had it at 3.5 recently also) and upgraded from a gtx285 to a 5870- big difference at 1680X1050 resolution. I can run BFBC2 on Max everything on the 5870, whereas the gtx 285 struggled with higher settings (it wasn't DX11 either). I know it doesn't answer your question exactly, but I can say for sure that the GPU upgrade, if held back by my cpu at all (I don't think it is) is only held back a bit. I've run a monitor in the background and my CPU isn't at 100% during this game (I guess this also isn't a fool proof piece of evidence either, but hopefully it helps).

I'd highly recommend the upgrade you are suggesting. I recently sold my 285 (had an aftermarket cooler on it) for £100, so you're talking of a small upgrade cost.

Most of the games are still gpu bound so better gpu will help a lot with frames though cpu is increasingly playing it's part aswell especially if it is overclocked.

screen size?

Read his sig:D

I'm surprised a 285 struggles with BC2, my mate just upgraded from his 280, and even it played BC2 at 1920x1080 maxed smoothly. He has a Q9550 at same speed as your Q6700 but I really don't think that's making the difference.
My aging 4870x2 is still coping fine with BC2.
