Ok basically I have a Q6700 @ 2.66ghz default clock and I was looking to OC to 3.0ghz. I have an Asus P5Q Deluxe motherboard with a titan fenrir CPU cooler. The last time I tried to OC and I tested some games I would get frequent lockups and my whole pc would just freeze. I changed the northbridge voltage and the CPU voltage(1.35) as advised a while back.

Could anyone who has a similar setup and has successfully OC'd please tell me how they got a successful OC?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks ;)

You have everything in place there to get a nice OC on your CPU

What settings did you use last time that led to the crashes?

1.4v is perfectly safe on a Q6700 you could try that and see how it likes 3.0ghz:)
Just watch your temps

Would I be able to just bump up the FSB to 300 with multiplier 10x, and leave all the other settings on auto, or is that dangerous?

On my P5Q-E I have

Ai overclock tuner set to manual
CPU ratio on Auto
CPU volts 1.45v
DRAM voltage 2.1v

Everything else is on automatic which is what I think you were asking in your opening post
What RAM have you got? most high-performance stuff these days is rated to 2.1v and that's what I always whack my ram on from the get go and have had no problems.

There is no real danger from trying 300FSB x10 = 3.0ghz, motherboards recover from bad overclocks lots better than they used to and actual chip damage is very rare these days from what I understand

Try stress testing with OCCT (google it)
Hope this helps

OCZ Gold Edition 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 Dual Channel

For the moment i've kept my FSB at 300 and multiplier at 10x, everything else on auto. I've run that stress test for 5 hours and my temps didnt exceed 60, and my games were not locking up like before. Safe to keep these settings?

5hrs is nice:) 5 mins for me is enough lol
temps sound good too, start to worry if load is 75-80degrees

Maybe see how high she'll go?:D

Update: I had to go back to stock speed, as if i went to 3ghz applications would start freezing and I would get BSOD's quite often ;x

Whats the VID of that Q6700?
Mine is 1.2625v, that's why I can use 1.328Vc for 3.33 O/C.
I stopped there as I hit a wall at 350FSB and would need 1.45Vc to push past it for 360x10 or 400x9.
