I've got my Q6700 running at 2.88GHz (OC from 2.6) and as advised some time back I could leave my Voltage on automatic for anything upto 3.0 GHz.

However, having read around the forums a bit, doesn't 1.31V seem a bit too much for a small OC like that, or is it just my paranoia? :(

Edit: Mobo is an Asus P5Q-Deluxe and I have a Titan Fenrir CPU Cooler

1.3125 isn't massive volts by any means. Have you tried 333MHz FSB and a multi of 9 at the same settings? Get Prime running as well and take another capture of the VID @ 100% load. Auto does tend to over volt a tad. My Q6600 does 3.0GHz at 1.3 in bios (1.28 by diagnostic programs in Windows), any less and the computer has a spaz

I'm a noob when it comes to OC, so apologies for the following question:

If I want to OC to 3+ GHz I'd need to OC the RAM too right? Would that mean just increasing the volts in BIOS on VDIMM?

I haven't tested 333MHz FSB @ 9X Multiplier but will do in a while; I'll run prime and post back in about 10-15 mins of stress test

Ok so I ran prime95 for 10 minutes and this is the result:

Gonna try 333 FSB and 9x multiplier now, will post back shortly

Seems like CoreTemp wasn't reporting the correct VID. I was able to get 333FSB x 9 multiplier and it was stable, so now I'm trying 400 FSB x 8 multiplier and VDIMM is at 1.8V. Running prime95 now to test OC,

After running prime95 for 30 minutes:

Safe to say it's a stable OC? Also should I up the volts on the RAM to 1.9 or something?

No need, your RAM is running stock speed :) 400FSB = 800MHz DDR.

Wouldn't be too concerned about Coretemps reported VID as temps are fine (very good even). Leave it Priming for a few hours. You may be lucky and get away with 400 x 9 multi but I'd think it would need a bit of a voltage bump

Thanks for your input and help mate. I think I will keep it at 400FSB x 8 multiplier for now @ 1.32V with VDIMM @ 1.80V stock.

VID is the chips "official rated" voltage. It varies from chip to chip. Coretemp gets it correct, as no matter what you set in bios, the VID of the chip is set by intel when the chip is made.

However you can ignore VID and put whatever volts you like in. My own Q6700 has a VID of 1.265V, the actual core voltage on my system ranges from 1.1V to 1.265V (intel badaxe motherboard, speedstep reducing voltage during idle).

quick question: I was messing around with the OC yday and I managed to get this:

5:8, are there any downsides to that or can I keep these settings? Passed 40 turns of Intel Burn Test and Prime95 for 8 hours but I'm a bit wary on the FSB:DRAM ratio
