For £140 is this the best quad core I'm going to get? Rendering fur on my current cpu is just too slow!

Aye, and you will proably get it up to 3.2ghz as your current E2200 quite easily too. Provided you have a capable motherboard and cpu cooler.
 
I also have an E2200, but I did not think it was a core 2 duo like in your specs. Good to know I can at least OC it to 3.2 as I bought it with a non oc friendly Intel board. New E2200 board is now on my list :P
 
Yeah intel rename the processors "pentium" for some bizarre reason despite them using the core 2 architecture, perhaps in the mistaken belief that it will make people buy higher models.

It almost worked on me. And it's funny you should mention that, because when I first bought my barebones kit, I could have swore it said I ordered a core 2 duo, but low and behold a week after I had I got back on the site to show someone, but that time and ever since, it was not listed as a c2d. Now it makes sense.
