Looking for a car with a bit more space that isn't a mum-mobile (although still considering a sharan)

Q7 and x5 both have 7 seater versions.
Budget around 18 - 20k, so probably looking at somewhere around 2014- 2016.

Missus has just been diagnosed with arthritis in both hips and is struggling getting in and out of our octavia, her tiguan is fine though.

Don't necessarily need 7 seats, but most rear seats aren't 3 full seats and we've got 3 kiddies now.

Are x5s and q7s money pits?
Is there anything else to consider within budget?

Skoda Kodiaq
Seat Tarraco
LR Discovery
Peugeot 5008
Volvo XC90
VW Tiguan Allspace
Kia Sorento
Hyundai Santa Fe

You'll get varying combinations of age / mileage at that budget but probably all worth at least some brief consideration.

I am looking at slightly smaller vehicles for exactly the same reason, family member mobility issues.
The two I am considering are an Audi Q5 or a BMQ X3.

When googling for research on them the other day I came across a site that listed the best production years from which to buy a used Q5.
It might be worth while checking that type of info out as the better years of production would suggest the less chance of a money pit for an X5 or a Q7.

Any reason why you are looking at a Q7 rather than a Q5 apart from the full seats for all the kids?

If you like the octavia, then a karoq or kodiaq is worth a look. Had a kodiaq for 4 years, with a new one coming in October. Used as a family wagon for 2 kids plus parents in law, plus towing my race car to tracks. 20 grand should get you something decent. Basically the same chassis as a tiguan allspace.

q7/x5 are 7 seaters.
q5 is a 4.5 seater, its basically the same car as the tiguan that we have now.
its a squeeze in the back of both our cars tiguan(2010) and octavia, missus is (very) fed up of the kids arguing every single time they get in the car.
they are 1, 6 and 8 so only going to get bigger and need more space in the future.

Spoke to the missus today and she said she would actually rather have an alhambra/sharan than an SUV, as they are more practical and have more space.
I'm not too bothered about replacing the octavia as I rarely have all of us in the car, and it fits me and 3 kids comfortably.

So change of plan now, we'll replace the tiguan with a mum-mobile, probably looking around the £10k as a budget now as the tiguan is not worth as much to trade in.

Crew cab transit. That way when the hips really go you can just slide her in the back!

Or I recommend something like an S Max.

I'll swap it for one of these when that happens :p :p
