Hi All,

I am new to this site and this is my first build and overclock. Through various forums I have altered various settings and have arrived at a quandry. I can only overclock to the amount I am if I keep my ram timings at auto, this gives me timings of 5-8-8-23.

The ram specifies 5-5-5-15 but I have no chance of achieving that.

My system consists of gigabyte ep45 ud3l board, q8200 cpu@490, Prolimatech cooler w/120mm fan and 8gb (4 x 2gb) Buffalo select Value Ram (667).

Can anyone give me any ideas how I may be able to tighten the timings, and will it make a noticable difference?

Cheers for the help and if you need any more info let me know.

Matt

HA HA I wish, no unfortunately 490mhz so 3.4ghz-ish. Have just had to turn back a bit as I think I was overvolting the ram, now 480mhz so 3.36ghz and the ram is at 960mhz.

haha, champion ram you have there! from 667 to 980 :P defo look into getting some higher spec ram for the future ;) id do some lengthy testing on your ram for a few hours to check stability, it may creep in after the ram heats up.

I am currently @480 due to shutdown and bluescreen memory management errors, will look into better ram but to replace 8gb would be a tad on the costly side for me. The 8gb I have cost less than £90 for the lot, so wasn't expecting loads out of it. I have seen a post about the ram and the writer had his at 1067, dont know the timings tho. Cant get close to that. Still really bad timings on the ram @480cpu tho!

*Update, after a few problems yesterday night, I reset all voltages to auto. After this I set my RAM timings to 5-5-5-15 and am now sat at 480mhz cpu (3.36ghz)
