Hey
I've upgraded from my E5200 which I overclocked to 3.06GHz to a Q8400 which I'm attempting to overclock to 3.2GHz (so far successfully) and I wanted to check some settings with you guys as I haven't done any overclocking since December 08 (when I got my E5200) and all the ins and outs have lapsed from memory.
A quick overview of what kit I'm using:
Q8400 cooled by an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro w/ AS5
4GB (2x2GB) Geil Vista Gold 800MHz DDR2
Gigabyte GA-P43-DS3 running bios F9 (lastest stable, F10b has been released but it was only to support an Intel Extreme chip)
When I picked up the Q8400 yesterday I set everything CPU related in the BIOS back to default [Auto] apart from the memory voltage which needed to be at 2.1v (even know it's rated at 1.8v!) to boot. So far all I've done is up the FSB from 333 to 400, this enables me to keep the memory in a 1:1 ratio.
I've still got everything (except the memory voltage) on Auto and it's been running prime for ~45mins now, if it primes for over 24hrs I'll be happy and call it stable but what I wanted to know is it OK for me to keep all the voltages at Auto? I'm guessing this defaults to stock voltages and not varies them as it see's fit to.
As they say, a picture paints a thousand words:
Will this be OK left on [Auto] or should I specify the voltages in the BIOS?
Thanks,
Craig
