Im sure lots are waiting to find out when the Q9450 is avaliable, I am kinda supprised that since others are allowing pre-orders that OcUk arnt. Not sure if its good or bad but I would like to know what will be charged for this processor here in the UK. Seen elseware on pre-order at £218 but I was under the impression that it would be about £185.

Any ETA? think ive gotta wait till the 29th for the asus rampage to be in stock anyware anyway so it doesnt bother me that much but I would like to get my new system build soon :)

Methinks they'll be a little higher than that, as they're new.

Q9300 = £170-200
Q9450 = £200-250
Q9550 = £350-400

That's what I think anyway....

Wish I had a better idea how long they may be, I really need to build a new pc but don't want to get burnt by buying old tech.

You'll hardly get "burnt" by buying a quad-core Q6600 for around £150...sheesh...you young'uns don't know you're born!

How about paying £600 (probably £850+ in today's money) for a 486DX2-66Mhz (state of the art 20 years ago) single core chip...

Your quite right, however nobody wants to buy end of line/obsolete products when the successor could be close to release. If I knew for certain it would be march before the new quad cores are available I will either buy a E8500 or a Q6600 G0 stepping.

I need to buy everything and start from scratch (well minus the case) so I'm trying to weigh up what to buy, lower heat and power consumption from the newer quads seems worthwhile providing the lead time isn't months :)

From a business point of view it makes perfect sense to keep release dates masqueraded in secrecy, otherwise you would have a lot of old stock left sitting on the shelf as people hold off for the new one ;)
