Q9450 overclock voltages ? help!

Want to overclock my q9450 however according to Gigabyte bios, its running 1.75v (on auto) at standard 2.66ghz clock. Surely this is way to high ? I previously had an e5200 @ 3.8ghz and it was only on 1.325v ???

So to overclock it i need to increase voltage further dont I, or can i just leave it on auto ? I would be happy with 3.6ghz tbh, on each 4 cores.

Also im running kingston pc8500, i set the ram timings to 1.8v 5-5-5-18 manually, do i need to change this ?

Also the board, which is a DS3P P45 Gigabyte has lots of MCH options etc, anything I need to change ? I was planning on just making 3.2ghz out of FSB 400x8 and going from there, does anyone know where the FSB wall is on my motherboard ?

You wont need any more than 1.250v for stock speeds.

1.175v sounds more reasonable for a stock q9450.

Also, make sure if you are running the memory at 533/1066mhz that it is at 2.2v. 1.8v is required for 400/800mhz speeds.

cpuz i just downloaded, states the following

Im guessing I should believe cpu-z ? In which case what do i change the voltage to in the bios if it reads 1.75v and not 1.175v (i could be mistaken) ??

I'm 99.9% sure that it wont say 1.75v in the BIOS. If it we, and it were true, then you wouldn't have a cpu right now! :eek:

1.175v sounds right, because it'll be higher in the BIOS due to vdrop.

For 3.2ghz, try 1.20v (in BIOS) at 400x8. Then do the usual testing, and see if you can get the voltage down until it doesn't post/pass testing etc.

Got it at a stable 3.2ghz 400mhz x8 @ 1.12v

very happy, patching bf2 with 1.41 patch and have IE open and cpu-z along with all my other stuff, on my old e5200 @ 3.8ghz bf2 patcher would take up both cores!!!

Edit: when you look in cpu-z and have ram in DDR2 dual channel, does it show slots 2 and 4 as vacant, or just 3 and 4 ?

I think the installer hasnt put them in dual channel mode!
