Hi, having successfully overclocked my gfx card from 575mhz to 700mhz (with more to come) I want to increase the overclock on the cpu from 3.2ghz to whatever it will do.

My specs are

Antec 900 with upgraded fans
q9450
Noctua NH-U12P
Gigabyte P45 DS3
Kingston DDR2 PC8500

Can anyone suggest what settings to set everything to to get a good increase in performance ?

The cpu currently lags behind overcclocked q9550's in benchmarks, and its not that different in sillicone.

this may help

No 8.5multi available? would make things easier...

You could get 3600MHz with a 450FSB but it all depends on if

a) /Your/ CPU likes 450 FSB, not all chips, even similar VIDs and cores will like the same FSBs

b) Your RAM likes the change.

c) Your board likes the change.

Your RAM timings can stay as they are, My GSkill 1GHz is at 5-5-5-12 for example and that's with 8GB of the stuff running in my system.

You could push your vcore up a bit more, don't the Q9450s clock similar to the Q9550 (the one I have)? Mine does 3.8GHz with almost 1.4v but the temps are high, even the slightest CPU load sends the temps beyond 45 degrees but I must have my fans at 50% for silence so maybe your noise preference will suit a higher vcore.

Have a play.

Save your working BIOS settings to a USB memory stick so you can easily restore back if needed and tickle away.
