If you are looking for high overclocks on a "budget" then the new E8500 look to be the way to go..

No if you already have a good clocking Q6600.

Intel has always locked multi on non-extreme edition chips so not sure what makes you think these new quads will be exceptions?

The new Penryn CPU's clock great but because the multi's are low you need to have a very high FSB.

The problem is that it's gonna be the mobo that stops the OC atm before the chip... or at least that's what I heard.

They are also £100 (9450) and £210 (9550) more expensive than the Q6600 from the place i have seen them on sale.

yeah, it's a real shame that you can't up the multi. No point in getting one of the lower end ones with a low budget if you want to get a high clock.
